A Great Source of Inspiration & Leadership Rev. William G. Gillespie, Chairman of the Board, Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club As I look back upon my more than 40 years at Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club, I am amazed by our continued growth — from a team of 30 young men under a shade tree to a multi-faceted organization serving more than 40,000 young men and women annually. Our dedicated staff and board of directors are a great source of inspiration and leadership to our club. Our board committees and three vice presidents handle key programming and service areas. This structure maintains open lines of communication, giving the Board of Directors a better understanding of the Club’s day-to-day inner-workings and providing our staff with additional resources to accomplish assigned tasks. Together, this effective team is firmly focused on addressing immediate and long-range planning goals. With our ever-expanding educational, athletic and cultural-enrichment programs, we are always in need of additional financial and volunteer resources. Our special events are one mechanism to accomplish this goal — attracting new supporters and recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of thousands of young people and volunteers. We are grateful to the many corporate sponsors who have lent us a helping hand throughout the year. I want to especially thank Martin Mathews for his vision, the Board of Directors for their continued guidance and support, and the staff for their commitment to our mission of serving the young people of St. Louis.
