Jack Buck Celebrity Night With the Stars
The Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club is giving fans the opportunity to‘play’ first base or pitcher on St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony LaRussa’s ‘Dream Team’ at the 13th Annual ‘Jack Buck Celebrity Night with the Stars’ at 5 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Missouri Athletic Club, 405 Washington Ave.
LaRussa is co-chairing the celebrity dinner auction, which raises much-needed funds for the Club’s Sports Program and celebrates the life and legacy of the late Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jack Buck. See Jack Buck Tribute
Sponsors who sign on for a Team Player table of 10 will have the opportunity to pull for their position, as well has have a picture taken with LaRussa. Major sponsors will be designated as honorary coaches.

Sherman George, chief of the St. Louis City Fire Department, is the co-chair of the gala and led the Fire Department’s annual Toll Road effort again on June 20-21. The honorary co-chairs are St. Louis Post-Dispatch President & Publisher Terry Egger and KPLR-TV, WB 11VP & GM Bill Lanesey. Several MAC members are a part of the planning team, including Charles Meyer, Richard Stegmann and Donald Fahey.
“Jack Buck dedicated his life to making our city a better place in which to live, and we are proud to continue this tradition to keep youth on the sports fields and off the streets,” said Mathews-Dickey President, CEO & Co-Founder Martin L. Mathews.
More than 250 sports enthusiasts from across the country attended the 2003 gala, whch featured a delicious dinner buffet and high-level silent and live sports/celebrity memorabilia auction, featuring donated items from Cardinals Care, the St. Louis Rams, Blues and others.
New Cardinals announcer Wayne Hagin served as the emcee, and Carole Buck received the ‘That’s A Winner Award.’ Musical fanfare was performed by Cardinals organist Ernie Hays at the cocktail reception and silent auction, and KTRS’ Dave Schumacher kept the bids rising through the roof, while the Buck sisters maintained the hoopla.
Individual tickets are $125 or $200 for parent/child (under age 12), with LaRussa’s Team Coach Player tables of 10 at $1,000 and Team Coach tables at $5,000.
Proceeds will benefit the Mathews-Dickey Sports Program, which brings families together and fosters strong character in young people through ‘America’s Past-time’ Baseball, Hoops Basketball, Bulldog Football, Swimming and more. The Club annually provides educational, athletic and cultural enrichment programs to more than 40,000 young people from throughout the St. Louis-metropolitan area, and is a United Way member agency.
