Jack Buck Celebrity Night With the Stars
The Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club’s “Jack Buck Celebrity Night with the Stars” fund-raiser is a great way to celebrate baseball fever, enjoy delicious cuisine and bid on an exciting array of sports memorabilia. The 2001 event, held in conjunction with Cardinals Care, took place on Saturday, July 14. All proceeds benefit the Mathews-Dickey Reviving Baseball in the Inner-Cities (RBI) Program, in which more than 1,000 young men and women participate.
Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa provided remarks at the dinner/auction, which attracted close to 200 sports enthusiasts — adults and children. Cardinals’ organist Ernie Hays provided musical fanfare and Fredbird was a part of the event hoopla. The gala was chaired by Tim Hanser, vice president & executive director, Cardinals Care.
The highlight of the evening is a high level sports/celebrity memorabilia auction, featuring autographed items by Hall of Fame Cardinals legend Stan “The Man” Musial, Isaac Bruce and Marshall Faulk of the St. Louis Rams, and a number of exciting VIP ticket/dinner packages.
For the past 10 years, this event has been a family affair for the Buck daughters. Christine and Beverly provided a tribute to their father, Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jack Buck.

Broadcaster Bob Carpenter tests the baseball knowledge of “Rules of the Game” creator Robert Poole.
