Friday, June 13 - Sunday, June 15, 2003

The “Maleness to Manhood Workshop Series” is an outgrowth of the Club’s “A Few Good Men Leadership” project and the counterpart to the nationally recognized, “The Sky is the Limit” career-readiness program for young women. The event was launched in 2000 with Ebony Magazine Art Director Raymond Thomas serving as the first keynote speaker and designing the commemorative logo. Fifty young men, ages 11-18, enjoy a full plate of exciting college, career, cultural and moral development activities, which include:
- Friday, June 13 (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.) — Program participants attend
informative seminars
on The Financial Aid Process, College Life and College Internet Research/ACT
Preparation Tips. A who’s who list of more than 30 local and national colleges will take part in our college fair from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mathews-Dickey. Open to the public, the college fair annually attracts more than 700 young men and women.
- Saturday, June 14 (8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.) — The career day activities begin
at 8 a.m. at
the St. Louis Airport Marriott Hotel. Fifty
young men
are paired one-on-one with male business professionals as career-building
partners for the
afternoon. Five $1,000 college scholarships are also awarded to graduating
seniors at the
event. Following the event, students hop on the tour bus
for field trips to a
cultural institution, movie and pizza party.
- Sunday, June 15 (9:30 a.m. to noon) — The event will conclude with church
services at
Cote Brilliante Presbyterian Church at 9:30 a.m. Services are presided over
by the Rev.
William G. Gillespie, the church’s pastor and Mathews-Dickey board chairman.
