Mathews-Dickey Hosts 4th Annual Health & Wellness Fair
TV exercise guru and Best of the Midwest Fitness CEO Calvin Watson kicked-off an energizing opening session to the 4th annual Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club Health & Wellness Fair on Friday, Oct. 20. The free fair, open to the public, offered cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes screenings, safety seminars, tips on good dental hygiene and more from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Gym at Mathews-Dickey, 4245 N. Kingshighway Blvd.
The program was held in honor of National Orthodontic Health Month and to celebrate the Mathews-Dickey/Saint Louis University’ Orthodontic Care Program’s fourth year in operation. Funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health, the program has provided 79 young men and women free orthodontic care in 2003-06.
“The health fair is an important mechanism to keep our community informed of critical health issues and prevent costly medical concerns later in life,” said Barbara Washington, vice president of public relations and special events, Mathews-Dickey.
Approximately 300 students from 18 area school districts, and adults and seniors from partnering community organizations attended the fair. Invited booth presenters include: The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, St. Louis Chapter; American Lung Association; American Parkinson’ Disease Center; American RedCross; Arthritis Foundation, Eastern Missouri Chapter; BJC HealthCare; City of St. Louis Department of Health; Clinical Intelligence; Colgate Palmolive; Delta Dental of Missouri; DePaul Health Center; Doisy College of Health Sciences; EnduraCare Therapy Management; HealthCare USA; Lewis & Clark Community College; Mental Health Network; Mercy Health Plans; Midwest Diagnostics; Myrtle Hilliard Davis Health Center; Oral Health America; Right At Home (In-Home Care & Assistance); St. Anthony’ Medical Center; Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education; St. Louis Children’ Hospital; St. Louis ConnectCare Community Health Centers; St. Louis Fire Department; St. Louis Internship Program; St. Louis Job Corps Center; St. Louis Lead Prevention Coalition; St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department; St. Louis Regional Asthma Consortium; St. Louis Science Center; St. Louis VA Medical Center; Tobacco Free Missouri and Williams & Associates, Inc.
