Thousands of youth enjoy wholesome sports and summer programs at the Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club via the “Safety Weekend for Kids.” A collaborative effort between the St. Louis City Fire Department, Cardinals Care and St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the annual event kicks off the Club’s three-decade-old Summer Day Camp Program.
To raise money for this program, the fire department, under the leadership of Chief Sherman George, operate their 16th annual area-wide Toll Road on Friday, July 27 through Sunday, July 29, 2007. Police Chief Joseph Mowka and Fire Chief Sherman George take part in a Busch Stadium on-the-field ceremony to commemorate the drive at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, before the Cardinals game versus the Milwaukee Brewers.
Chief George and his firemen present the results of their fund-raising efforts at the annual “Jack Buck Celebrity Night With the Stars.”
