Mathews-Dickey Turns On the Lights for Golden 50th Anniversary

The Mathews-Dickey Boys’ & Girls’ Club celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2010.  Themed “A Golden Celebration: Turn on the Lights,” the festivities kick off with the 50th Anniversary Alumni Celebration & Awards Showcase on Saturday, February 13, at the Sheraton West Port Chalet, where 50 luminaries will be inducted into the Club’s Hall of Fame.  Trophies are presented to more than 1,000 youth for their achievements in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football and swimming on Sunday, February 14, at Mathews-Dickey.  The Missouri History Museum is dedicating a brick in honor of Martin Mathews’ lifetime achievements.  The Governor, Mayor and St. Louis Board of Alderman are being invited to provide special recognition to the Club’s co-founders.

The Club will host an Anniversary Parade from Handy Park, to the old Bob Russell Sporting Goods store location to the its current Kingshighway facility.  The celebration, which includes a tented outdoor BBQ celebration, takes part on July 22 — the 28th Anniversary of President Ronald Reagan’s declaration of the Club as a model for the country.  Mathews-Dickey also will dedicate the “In the Footprints of Jack Buck” Walk of Fame and create a memorial to the late Club co-founder Hubert “Dickey” Ballentine.  Stay tuned for more information on this great milestone in the Club’s history.
